Leslie (Les) has a varied background, which includes over 20 years in the Royal Navy as a commissioned officer. His service in as naval officer exposed him to a wide range of leadership and management situations and challenges. As well as operational duties, he spent three years training cadets at the Britannia Royal Naval College (BRNC) Dartmouth – again, a focus on leadership and management. A later role in the Ministry of Defence focused on setting up the HR strategy for a government agency – this included establishing the L&D and resourcing strategies aligned to the business strategy of this new and multifaceted organisation. Les achieved his post graduate CIPD qualification on the back of this.
A civilian career has covered a range of roles, including exhibition management, internal consultancy within Volkswagen, and an operations director role within a large consultancy, managing field teams focused on training, assessment centres and development centres.
For the last 15 years, Les has been involved in CIPD qualification delivery and assessment. He is a Chartered Fellow of the CIPD, Chartered Fellow of the CMI, a Fellow of the ILM, and a Chartered Manager.
Personal & Fun:
Les lives in the UK with his wife and youngest daughter. He enjoys sailing, fishing and keeping fit, as well as family orientated activities.
